“Go green, think green act green.” A Green economy helps Kenya to adapt to cleaner and safer energy sources therefore restoring a lost environment due to humans disregard for the natural environment and surroundings. This means taking care of the air and water one requires. It is all about life and saving generations. Adjusting to this lifestyle may seem odd and is a very personal choice that individuals have to make to contribute to benefit the planet and make it a better place to live in. People are trying to find new ways in which to go green and to encourage future generations to follow this trend. From chemical products to paperbags, they all impact and benefit our future. There are several benefits of go green in Kenya that contributes towards maintaining and preserving the environment, and there are many things you can do to live a green life. The lifestyle benefits for those who choose to go green are found in the diet, which reduces the chemicals ad preservatives entering the body. In a personal environment using natural products reduces the toxins that are being taken into the system through the air. The reduction of chemicals and pollution in the air also benefits the local environment, especially in Kenya, the rural and suburban communities can be benefited with safer water and foods and cleaner air to breath. Kenya, as a country can benefit on a whole, by recycling and using natural alternatives with a desire to live a healthy lifestyle. Some benefits take time and dedication as we continuously learn about new techniques to create this lifestyle. In a home environment go green is easier to adapt to, as it is a more personal choice, such as the amount of energy and how efficiently it is used, or switching from disposable to reusable items. At work it is slightly more challenging but can be very beneficial to the firm. It increases organization and also reduces clutter resulting in ecological awareness. Also carrying the “green” logo may increase the number of sales and customers. Many people start to get involved in the movement because of the community. Communities influence efforts and dedication to create a positive impact to create a green lifestyle desired. One of the most poplar methods to do this is to have a chemical free zone at our home, or even workplace by buying eco-friendly and chemical free items to simply replace chemical toxins. Another quick and easy way is to reduce personal waste by reducing the use of disposable items and focusing on reusable ones, may it be kitchen napkins where towels can be used instead or powder detergents to pods. The same purpose is served and waste is managed too. Reducing the consumption of energy is very crucial. Not only does it protect the environment but also lighter on your pockets. The easiest starting point here is to use energy saving light bulbs and use surge protectors and this will show immediate results. It also lowers costs whether it is personal lifestyle, work or home, a community or global. Re-using and recycling is the future for Kenya. You can only stand to benefit this way. In Kenya the forests and wildlife are quickly being destroyed, with activities such as mining and deforestation going on, which develops pollution and increases global warming. Conservation of forests and wildlife protects medical plants and herbs that are valuable to secure our health. “If the other benefits of living a green life do not move you, then at least, go green for your own health and that of those around you.” A sustainable future is a key benefit in Kenya or we would be left with nothing; air, water, food. “An un-livable world beyond repair.” By adapting and practicing the green way in our daily lives, we can make a difference to the world and also encourage those around us. It offers us a better quality life by having more consideration for the things you use and the environment you live in, leaving behind a positive impact on the Earth, allowing for development in a pollution free, cleaner and more beautiful surrounding and living a fuller life. It allows you to be more creative as well with recycling materials, giving an opportunity to create useful items and new ways to bee efficient with materials and increases productivity and at the same time reduces the use of energy. Most importantly it will make you feel happy with a sense of accomplishment. Kenya has recently issued a ban on plastic bags and adjusting to the life without them. The plastic bag litter, clog the sewers ad streams, damaging the soil and water sources and affecting the health of animals that consume the plastic. Paperbag manufacturers have been urged to transition to alternatives such as degradable or re-usable shopping bags made from corn, potatoes or starch which are 100% biodegradable. An exemption is extended for industrial primary packaging, duty free bags at the airport and garbage bags. For any other uses alternatives are being provided. Bags made out of paper, cloth or even papyrus are available or woven or non-woven polypropylene bags and polyolefin fibre bags. Although these alternatives have been provided they have to meet certain requirements and be safe to use and they should have tensile and basting strength. Alternative to plastic bags in Kenya, canvas bags are the most popular choice. Usual made from cotton or linen, it is durable and is used for other purposes where dependability is needed. Other items made from this fabric include tents, sails and backpacks. The bags can different shapes and sizes and are thicker than paperbags. As plastic bags have been ban in Kenya, canvas is good option to create jobs of canvas making bags, implying that people will reuse these bags and have a more positive impact on the environment. It is not difficult to get an alternative to paper bags in Kenya as there are other diverse materials to carry the necessary. Although it has left many wondering what to do, as plastic bags were part of our day-to-day lives, this ban has left the public with no option but to use alternatives and adjust to the change.
